Barbour also has to overcome the fact that he “governed” Mississippi for an eternity, and MS was before, during, and after Barbour’s “leadership” the poorest education system (and poorest academics) in the entire USA. Whether education should or should not (NOT) be part of the federal reach, Barbour’s state is the dumbest. Huckabee, for example, started with one of the worst states academically, but thru his state leadership, radicallly improved results over his tenure. And Barbour’s obnoxious twang isn’t a gentle drawl like Clinton’s, and he IS and LOOKS LIKE a fat old white guy who could have a heartattack tomorrow while eating his chicken-fried steak. None of these things should be negatives, but to our emotion-based, appearance-driven culture, they are…and there are better choices without these negatives. Unfortunately, a good voting record isn’t good enough for most Joe Sixpacks.
