You have the right general theory. You have just mistaken what should count for recruiting when it comes to politics. Sarah Huckabee and all those dozens of other big name hires of the past months are not players. Those are assistant coaches and do not count. None of them are on the grass in the mud. You can hire every one of them and get the endorsement of half the legislature and the Governor and still be Lamar Alexander in 5th place come the Straw Poll.
