Trick-or-Treating Without a Costume

By Steve Deace

The wolf isn’t even trying to fool Little Red Riding Hood anymore.

For decades conservatives have warned the American people that behind the Left’s emotional double-speak and sanctimonious talk of “fairness” was hidden an agenda that attacks liberty at every opportunity. Now that they feel the culture is finally trending in their direction, the Left has publicly confirmed it for us on at least three occasions.

Exhibit A

In Wisconsin a millionaire Leftist named Mary Burke is getting set to challenge Governor Scott Walker next year. A current member of the Madison School board, Burke told the Wisconsin State Journal that government “can do things better” than “families and individuals” can.

And she’s not talking about building highways or tanks.

Burke is talking about raising and educating children: “If each individual family had to take on the role of educating their children that would be much more difficult. That’s the role of government. It can do things better as an organization than individuals can do on their own.”

Except that’s not true. Every recent credible study on student achievement proves that the more parents are involved in their kid’s education, the better the kid grades out in the classroom. Not to mention the precedent set by granting the state, not parents, jurisdiction over children. The next step is to say the state owns yours kids and not you, which is exactly what MSNBC personality Melissa Harris-Perry recently said.

Exhibit B

Over at the Leftist website Salon a column titled “So What if Abortion Ends Life” openly admits that life begins at conception, but if you don’t want it you can kill it anyway.

In the following excerpt, which directly contradicts every document this country was founded on, the author reveals the true ideology of the child killing industry:

Here’s the complicated reality in which we live: All life is not equal. That’s a difficult thing for liberals like me to talk about, lest we wind up looking like death-panel-loving, kill-your-grandma-and-your-precious-baby storm troopers. Yet a fetus can be a human life without having the same rights as the woman in whose body it resides. She’s the boss. Her life and what is right for her circumstances and her health should automatically trump the rights of the non-autonomous entity inside of her. Always.

Ironically, when you advocate a position that says the value of human life should be determined by whether or not another human being wants them around, you are indeed advocating for the “death-panel-loving, kill-your-grandma-and-your-precious-baby storm troopers” the author fears being tagged with.

So how would this author argue against another woman just killing her where she stands because they want her job or her significant other, since the standard is “what is right for her circumstances?” Furthermore, why can’t someone reading this just decide since “all life is not equal” they can just extinguish hers right now for any reason? If life has no inherent value or dignity higher than what another person thinks of it, then there’s no arguing against just killing anybody for any subjective reason.

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs. Lenin and Stalin would be proud of Salon, for it’s now pushing their Bolshevik ideology that spawned gulags, five-year plans, and mass purging of people.

Exhibit C

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid admitted to his hometown PBS affiliate that Obamacare, and all the other hybrid government-private healthcare scams the Left has attempted to sell us for decades, are designed to fail. The ultimate goal here is to have government in complete and total control of your healthcare, just as that has always been a primary objective for Leftists throughout the West.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is predicting (Obamacare)…will eventually be moot. Reid said he thinks the country has to “work our way past” insurance-based health care during a Friday night appearance on Vegas PBS’ program “Nevada Week in Review.” “What we’ve done with Obamacare is have a step in the right direction, but we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever,” Reid said. When then asked by panelist Steve Sebelius whether he meant ultimately the country would have to have a health care system that abandoned insurance as the means of accessing it, Reid said: “Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes.”

So when the president repeatedly promised you that if you like your current healthcare plan “you can keep your plan” he was either a fool or a liar, and neither is becoming of the office of the presidency. In fact, so far more people have actually lost their health coverage than have enrolled in Obamacare.

It’s a shame really, that everything we warned the American people about for decades is finally coming true, and our own side is at least partially to blame for this. For we have lacked leaders for decades willing to do what it takes to defeat these people.

Instead we have “leaders” that side with the Leftists when people like Ted Cruz or Mike Lee actually attempt to save what’s left of liberty from these horrors — and the even more unspeakable ones still to come.
