Morning Briefing: August 3rd, 2012

By Steve Deace

8.3%

The latest jobs report was released this morning, and the numbers are essentially unchanged from last month, which obviously is not good news for President Obama’s re-election campaign. The unemployment sits at 8.3% — 7.4% for whites and 14.1% for blacks. In other words, blacks have twice the unemployment as whites, which just goes to show the folly of indentity politics. 41% of those unemployed have been without a job for 27 weeks or more. What really provides context to that is the amount of what’s called “discouraged workers.” These are people who have essentially given up looking for a job. If you factored them into the unemployment rate, it would actually be 11%. By the way, the next jobs report is scheduled to be released the morning after Obama’s speech at the Democrat National Convention.

Other Companies Taking a Stand

In the wake of the Chick-fil-a story, some of you have been asking me for other businesses will to take a stand for the Kingdom of God so that you can support them. The Blaze has a list of some of the top companies in the country that are blazing the same trail as Chick-fil-a, and willing to take a stand for the Gospel.

Gary DeMar Says Vote for Mitt Romney

Gary DeMar from American Vision, one of my favorite Christian thinkers, says he’s voting for Mitt Romney and you should, too. Since earlier this year we’ve featured content from Christian thinkers on why they’re not voting for Romney, I wanted to give equal time to the other side of the argument but through someone not totally sold out to the Republican Party. My only comment on his reasoning is to ask two questions. One, since he’s a Christian thinker/leader, is there a solid Biblical rationale offered for what he’s doing (which is a question I’ve asked of those not voting for Romney as well). Two, what are the objective reasons he lists to vote for Romney?
