God Grants a Victory in Alabama
by Michael Peroutka, The Institute on the Constitution
On November 6th – Election Day – 2012, I had the privilege of witnessing a blessing of God. On that day I was in Montgomery, Alabama alongside former Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court and many of his supporters.
As the final election results were reported late that evening, it became clear that the people of Alabama had chosen to return Judge Moore to the highest judicial position in the State.
As you may recall, back in November 2003, fully nine years ago, Judge Moore was removed from office for the pretended offense of acknowledging God as the Source of all Law and Government. And while acknowledging the Lord God Almighty as the Origin of our life and our liberty may, in fact, be very offensive to those revolutionaries who seek to remake our Christian country into a socialist welfare state, the “inconvenient” truth they must face is that it is the legal duty of the Chief Justice, as well as every oath taker in every state and every federal office, to do so.
In fact, the very first sentence* of the Alabama Constitution acknowledges God and invokes His favor and guidance. And you may be surprised to know that the same is true of the Constitution of every one of the fifty states.
The fact that God is the ultimate lawgiver, and that actions of all presidents and senators and governors and judges and sheriffs and police and military are bound by His Word, is made inescapably clear in the supreme law of each state and the supreme law of these united States.
In the great State of Alabama the people have re-elected a man who has stood boldly for this truth. Oh, that God might cause the people of all the States to be so wise!
