A Prayer for Our Country on the Fourth

by Dr. Michael Milton

Lord, who gave true eternal independence through Jesus Christ our Lord, hear this prayer on this day – a solemn day of remembrance In our national life. As we recall the birth of a new nation, one nation under God, we recognize that we have strayed so far from the founding principles of the one true God and Thy Word.

Lord hear our prayer.

Father, the cries of innocent children’s live have been taken from us with the abortioner’s scalpel made legal and the infants are crying out against ungodly decisions made by human courts denying inviolable laws. We ask for forgiveness.

Lord hear our prayer.

God of our fathers, our pastors in our churches have fallen too much into devices of culture to be able to speak to culture. Deliver us from the seductive siren song of this present evil age and help us to be able to listen again to the still small voice that says, come follow Me.

Lord hear our prayer

Our heavenly Father, in a day when many of our national institutions are infected with the sin from below, set us free to live lives of righteousness from above, and help us to invite others to follow Thee as Lord and Savior. Help us to live godly lives that would become joyous models of Grace, welcoming others into the kingdom by word and deed and living at peace with all in the Body of Christ.

Lord hear our prayer.

Help us to be soul-winners.

Lord hear our prayer.

Help us to be doers the word and not hearers only.

Lord hear our prayer

Deliver us from being so caught up in this age that we fail to be able to see, diagnose, and compassionately treat the spiritual malignancies present in ourselves and our family. Equip us with Word, sacrament, and prayer to treat these worldly wounds. Help us who are pastors to shepherd with Biblical fidelity, Gospel-driven-heart motivation, and love for others arising out of a love for Thee.

Lord hear our prayer.

So, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we come to Thy throne this July 4, 2013, and join our prayers with all of the saints, thanking Thee for the rich bounty of goodness that You poured upon this nation from sea to shining sea. We join with angels and archangels and with the whole company of heaven to laud and magnify Thy most holy name forever praising Thee, and singing “Hallelujah!”

Lord send revival. Lord heal our land.

Christ, Hear our prayer.

“O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov’d homes and the war’s desolation;
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

LORD, thank you for the men & women who You raised up to found this nation, who turned to You for guidance, & the many people who have worked tirelessly to keep it free. But forgive my generation for turning from You, for allowing evil to reign in Your place. Wilt thou not revive us again; that thy people may rejoice in thee
