Judges Say Pedophiles are the Real Victims

This Week’s Sign the Apocalypse is Upon Us

by Rebekah Maxwell

Imagine, if you will, the beauty of a morally-neutral world. Nothing is anybody’s fault, nothing is evil, no one can judge. Sounds like a recipe for utopia to me!

But what about when, Gaia forbid, bad things happen to inherently-good people? What happens when, in the course of following our lusts and baser evolutionary urges, we run afoul some other humanoid?  Fear not, my self-preserving homo sapiens: you’re automatically a victim.

For instance, if you happen to rape a child, you’re actually the victim. Not the 14-year old upon whom you forced yourself. You.

USA Today reports:

A Montana judge is under fire for sentencing a 54-year-old former teacher to just 30 days in jail for raping a 14-year-old girl who later committed suicide.

District Judge G. Todd Baugh, in sentencing Stacey Rambold, said victim Cherice Moralez was “as much in control of the situation” as her teacher, referring to Cherice as a troubled youth, “older than her chronological age,” the Billings Gazette reports.

Cherice was 16 when she killed herself in 2010 after the case was sent to criminal court.

Baugh stood by his decision Tuesday and again Wednesday.

“Obviously, a 14-year-old can’t consent. I think that people have in mind that this was some violent, forcible, horrible rape,” Baugh said Tuesday. “It was horrible enough as it is, just given her age, but it wasn’t this forcible beat-up rape.”

The judge later apologized for his remarks but not the sentence. He submitted a letter to the editor expanding, saying he was “not sure just what I was attempting to say, but it did not come out correct.”

After his 30-day jail term ends, Rambold will be on supervised probation for 15 years and must register as a sex offender.

Cherice’s mother, Auliea Hanlon, issued a written statement: “As I looked on in disbelief, Judge Baugh stated that our teenage daughter was as much in control of the situation as her teacher was,” she wrote. “She wasn’t even old enough to get a driver’s license. But Judge Baugh, who never met our daughter, justified the paltry sentence saying she was older than her chronological age.

“I guess somehow it makes a rape more acceptable if you blame the victim, even if she was only 14.”

You heard it, folks. It wasn’t really rape. That sly 14-year old knew what she was doing. It couldn’t possibly have been the depravity of her middle-aged teacher who molested her. It wasn’t some “forcible beat-up rape.” Must have been the new, casual, consensual rape between a 54-year old teacher and an eighth-grade girl. That makes it all better.

A recent high-profile case in the UK  recognized another unfairly maligned pedophile as the victim he truly is:

Neil Wilson, 41, was given an eight-month sentence, suspended for two years, for having sex with a 13-year old girl (as well as making/possessing pornography featuring child abuse and bestiality).

The prosecutor said Wilson’s young victim was “predatory in all her actions”, and Judge Nigel Peters said he had taken into account the fact that she looked older than she was.

“She appeared to look around 14 or 15 and had the mental age of a 14 or 15-year-old despite being younger than that.”

“There was sexual activity but it was not of Mr Wilson’s doing. You might say it was forced upon him despite being older and stronger than her.”

He told Wilson: “On these facts (that were put before the court), the girl was predatory and was egging you on. That is no defense when dealing with children, but I am prepared to impose a suspension.”

Quite so. It’s no defense, but it’s a defense. Because it’s not this man’s fault he was enticed by a 13-year old school girl. She looked at least 14. She’s the predator. Totally asking for it, I’m quite sure.

Some readers may balk at the notion that in our shiny new morally-neutral utopia, we cannot prosecute child rapists, but instead label them victims of those crazy middle-school predators. Well, what would you have us do? Call them evil? Lock them up for life? Sic the wrathful fathers on the men who molested their baby girls?

How judgmental. They’re not depraved predators, enslaved by base (and illegal) lusts of their flesh, using a position of authority to psychologically and/or physically force their sexual demands on children…they just made wrong choices. They can’t help themselves when they’re around sexy pubescents. They were born that way.

Still not convinced the pedophiles are the victims? Luckily, the freest thinkers among us have a simple solution to the whole child-molestation quibble: lower the age of consent.

After all, pederasts are people, too. Who are we to tell them who to love? Or how old?
