Why should a Christian vote for Ron Paul?
Normally the stock response to such a question by most politicians pandering to Christians is:
“He’s 100% Pro-life.”
Yes, of course, Ron Paul is pro-life. And while defending the lives of our (unborn) neighbors is of the utmost importance when more than one million a year are legally slaughtered, there is even more that ought to weigh heavily on the Christian’s heart.
Pro-life is not enough.
If a child escapes the womb without being torn limb-from-limb, he inherits a massive share of debt, a money supply rapidly decreasing in value, an economy devastated by Federal-Reserve-created booms and busts, and a government that will lord over every aspect of his life.
Most of us grew up believing that the United States Government existed to protect our rights, to preserve our freedoms. After the financial crisis of 2008, with so-called “too big to fail” banks receiving trillions of dollars in public (and secret) bailouts, whatever naiveté we once had about our government was gone. Most of us now see a government so large, so powerful, and so corrupt, that we know, among the ruling class, defending the rights and freedoms of the people is secondary, at best, to their own personal, political, and financial gain. How much does our own situation parallel the prophet Isaiah’s denunciation of Jerusalem:
How the faithful city has become a whore, she who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers. Your silver has become dross, your best wine mixed with water. Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not bring justice to the fatherless, and the widow’s cause does not come to them. (Isaiah 1:21-23 ESV)
Our once-Christian nation has been ravaged by a holocaust of legally-sanctioned murder.
Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.
Our money supply is inflated by the trillion by the Federal Reserve.
Your silver has become dross.
Our leaders are not restrained by the Constitution nor rule of law. They pass tyrannical bills like Obamacare, spy on their citizens, molest grandmothers at airports, and go to war without any authority to do so.
Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves.
Our government regulates and destroys, all at the behest of those too big to fail.
Everyone loves a bribe and runs after gifts.
The welfare state has made many perpetually poor, either through dependence upon it or the onerous tax burden required to fund it.
They do not bring justice to the fatherless, and the widow’s cause does not come to them.
A government as powerful and corrupt as this is already a threat to the life, liberty, and property of our neighbors. How much longer will it be, before it becomes an enemy to the preaching of the gospel? Such manifest wickedness should deeply concern Christians and cause them to cry out for someone who will bring true change to such a godless society.
Ron Paul stands for such radical change. He advocates that states immediately nullify Roe v. Wade, which he believes is their right under the 10th Amendment, and a right he will enforce as president. He supports abolishing legal tender laws, thus ending the Federal Reserve’s destruction of our wealth and the boom/bust cycles it enables. He favors ending the income tax, that odious Progressive weapon of wealth and family destruction. He stands for restraining the Federal Government strictly within the Constitution, which means: a repeal of Obamacare, an end to the TSA, a restoration of the 4th Amendment (i.e. a repeal of the Patriot Act), and an end to all unconstitutional wars.
His budget plan calls for the end of five cabinet-level departments, and more than a trillion dollars cut from the Federal Budget, all within the first year. On foreign policy, he is favors restoring that great inheritance of Christendom: Just War Theory. Our sons and daughters will no longer die on foreign battlefields for the anti-Christian, Progressive dream of “making the world safe for democracy” and nation building.
Contrary to popular belief, he favors an overall improvement in our support of the nation of Israel: by cutting all foreign aid, which brings to an end our aid of Israel’s enemies (which is greater by ten-fold than our aid to Israel), and allowing Israel to conduct her own foreign policy, without asking the United States for permission. Upholding Israeli sovereignty, as he did in the House when he refused to condemn their 1981 attack on Iraq’s nuclear facility (unlike Newt Gingrich), has been a long standing position for Paul. What’s more, he has stood for these things for decades, rather than adopting positions as often as people change their socks. He tells people the truth, always, no matter how unpopular or politically un-pragmatic that may be; as in, when he accurately predicted the financial meltdown of 2008 on the House floor in 2003!
With Ron Paul, these are not just empty platitudes, or talking points that can be easily forgotten (even by the candidates themselves). These are heartfelt commitments – causes Dr. Paul has dedicated his life to. It is his, and our, Christian duty to protect and defend the life, liberty, and property of our neighbors. Please recognize this duty, and please consider supporting him.
