Michele Bachmann Strikes Back

by Jen Green

I wondered how long it would take and what exactly it would look like. I wondered when (and if, really) Michele Bachmann would turn around and tell the annoying kid sitting in the back row who kept talking smack about her to shut up.

Now I know.

There comes a point when a candidate has to show she’s got what it takes. Obama is an easy target because he’s from the other team. Taking on one of “your own” especially one from your own state, well, that’s another issue—especially if you’re a nice Midwesterner and especially if you’re a woman. Apparently, Sunday was that point for Michele Bachmann. Her campaign released a “rebuttal” to Tim Pawlenty’s repeated attacks on her lack of experience and her fitness to be president (yes, I mean the alluded comments about the migraines). Jennifer Rubin says in The Washington Post, Bachmann “counter-punched” effectively (not arguing down to a candidate who’s at 6%, but letting her spokesperson do it for her), used his own premises against him, effectively refuted the others, and left Pawlenty looking, in her words,  “foolish.” You can decide if you agree.

18 days till Ames. Can you feel the love?
