Wow, that was excellent!  Thank you!  You touched on so many things I’ve been thinking about.  Not so much about women in politics, but other questions about how we are to determine the most Godly leader. I’ve applied for many political jobs because that’s what I am familiar with.  It clearly wasn’t wise to be an acitivist in my former job, although keeping my mouth shut was often a problem. This lesson cleared up the many questions I’ve been asking myself and praying about, especially what should I do with my time.  Being retired isn’t such a bad thing!

I applaud your courage in even bringing up the subject. I also affirm your conclusion to Sola Scriptura. I would suggest that discussing this with a group that has not studied this is stimulating, but futile. I hear people verbalizing beliefs in class without having studied. By extension, what people think and share in such a group based upon their own unstudied perceptions is not Sola Scriptura.

I would encourage you to continue the pursuit, and study in much more detail. For example, you draw a conclusion on Phoebe being a deacon, but the word “deacon” is used much more often as a general term of “servant” and not the office (used of many, including Jesus, Paul, etc. who did not hold the “office” of deacon). To conclude that Phoebe was a formal “leader to care for the physical needs of the church” is possible, but not likely, given the “husband of one wife” requirement for deacons is a broad, loose swath upon which you seem to build an assumption which is the basis for more argument.

Keep up the good work. I’ve done a lot of study and teaching on this. I’m glad someone else is broaching the most ignored of teachings in the church.
