2012 Iowa Straw Poll Focus Group

We here at SteveDeace.com put together a unique event on June 28th.

We assembled a group of 10 undecided Republican voters, who plan on participating in the Iowa Straw Poll on August 13th in Ames, to get their take on several key questions:

1) Why are they undecided?

2) What are they looking for in a candidate?

3) What is their decision-making process for selecting a candidate?

4) What media and endorsements do they trust to help them make their decision?

The audio you’ll hear as these active yet undecided Iowa voters is unlike anything that you’ve probably ever listened to. These voters pull no punches yet share their opinions in a winsome and respectful manner.

We invite you to listen to these podcasts, and then share your thoughts in our forum here.

Great work – will have to listen to the rest in the morning.

If the general electorate were like the people in this interview, Obama would have been laughed out of the caucus. Obviously, this group represents a minority. I dare you to interview people off the street, Steve, and we’ll laugh and then we’ll cry but I don’t believe the average person is anywhere near this articulate and engaged. I had trouble getting people to be involved last political season because they weren’t agreeable to missing their favorite reality show. Too many people are ignorant, apathetic and socialist, hence the current pathetic state of the country. Even when they do pay attention they get it wrong because they were not blessed with an agile mind. For example, I know someone who listened to your show and thought you were a liberal! Not sure how that happened but I invited him to come meet you in person; he refused.  It is possible to bring back some sanity to government and I will participate in 2012 to help candidates I believe in but this is a pendulum that only swings so fast. The baby boomers aren’t going to live forever and once they are gone we’ll have a better chance. However, even if we manage to get hold of the government again, the children from the government schools that they have brainwashed will be running for position in the future to represent the socialist worldview once again. We also are up against the giant pragmatic and corrupt group that is in every generation. If it weren’t for my babies, I would have much less energy for this fight.

Adults who were homeschooled are, and will continue to be, much more politically active than the average joe.  This bodes well for our future.

We have two toddlers and are already considering which curriculum to use for homeschooling. Most people in my sphere of influence home school. It makes me hopeful. I am the same age as Steve and, like him, was educated in public school; it would appear the quality of public education took a deep plummet about the time we graduated. My sister was only two years behind me and she was indoctrinated in a way that I was not. My sister’s 13 yr old daughter goes to public school and the level of brainwashing is off the charts; starkly different than my own experience. I am blessed to be able to undo as much as possible as I babysit her over the summer. She loves having the other side of the argument; now that she is aware that there is an argument. Everything from global warming to diversity training, she is able to grasp that she has been lied to and is learning to defend her views.  When I explained technically what an abortion is she was appalled. I try never to treat any subject as though it is taboo so I can be the one she comes to for straight talk. Steve is one of the people I go to for straight talk when I need it. Sorry I got off the subject, I am not very surprised by the things Steve’s interviewees said because I am just like them. I nearly volunteered to participate.

Doo doo doo doooo, doo doo doo doooo, doo doo doo doooo

      Aaahhh, aaahhh

Where have all the good men (women)  gone and where are all the gods ?

Where’s the street-wise Hercules to fight the rising odds ?

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed ?

Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need

I need a hero, I’m holding out for at hero ’till the end of the night

He’s( or she) gotta be strong and he’s (she’s) gotta be fast

And he’s (she’s) gotta be fresh from the fight

I need a hero, I’m holding out for a hero ’till the morning light

He’s gotta be sure and it’s gotta be soon

And he’s gotta be larger than life, larger than life

To sum:We are holding out for a hero (a champion)Willing to FIGHT for our beliefs. (Fresh from the fight)And that person needs to be SURE (no backtracking when pressured). And if we don’t get that I am more than willing to have four more years of Obama because these last years of Obama has seen a rise in conservativism so I do believe that if a conservative isn’t in office it is better to have Obama than Bush! No, I don’t miss Bush Yet (as that one sign says) I doubt I ever will.

What we want it seems to me is indeed a gladiator.  Metaphorically of course.

What was obvious to me was for Michelle Bachmann to win she has to totally crush Romney in a debate so bad that he becomes a joke in American politics. She needs to crush him politically, spiritually, and personally.  This of course means just say no to the so called 11th commandment.

I say this not because Romney is so strong, but because he is so weak. If Bachmann can’t totally destroy Romney then people would question if she could even hold her own against Obama. Also, as a woman she needs to prove that she is ruthless.

I mean it has to be a bloody. She has to win by a knock out. She isn’t going to win it on points.

(Below I choose the fight between Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago.  Not a perfect analogy because of course in that fight Apollo was the good guy but I picked because of course Apollo dies in the Ring. And that is what Bachmann needs to do to prove to all of us that she deserves a bigger match.  If she can’t even totally destroy a lightweight like Romney then how can she even hold her own in a general).

I want the metaphorical equivalent of Bachmann just punching Romney and punching him, and then blood starts coming out of his ears, his wife shouts “Stop the Fight” and Romney goes “no mas, no mas” but Bachmann keeps ruthlessly going after him with blow after blow after blow and then with one great punch to the jaw Romney falls to the ground. He isn’t getting up!  Someone is the a doctor in the house. And Bachmann then looks straight in the camera and says YOU’RE NEXT OBAMA!
      Metaphorically speaking of course.

If she does anything less then she has lost.  People just won’t think she has it in her.  And if she can’t totally pulverize the lightweight Romney then how can she even hope to go the distance in the Ring with the heavyweight Obama.

No, she needs to destroy Romney completely with finality.  NO MERCY.  At the end of the debate it needs to be clear that Romney has no future in public life.

Did you see how the ref was trying to stop the Fight but Drago was not letting him.  THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO SEE FROM BACHMANN.

I want to see her make Romney CRY!

If she can’t make Romney CRY do you think she could really even last a round with Obama?

        • Kirk

I want Romney’s wife to be shouting “Stop the Debate” and his campaign advisers to be shouting “throw the damn towel”.

          Metaphorically speaking of course.

Not because Romney is so strong. He isn’t.  She can’t win the debate “on points” because she needs to prove that she can be in the Ring with Obama.  Winning a debate “on points” with Romney proves NOTHING.  That is why she needs to KILL ROMNEY IN THE RING (metaphorically) .  In order to prove that she has the ability and the will to do so. This mean NO SO CALLED 11th Commandment!

It needs to be so bad that even YOU STEVE might feel a little sorry for Romney.  He must be the laughingstock of the world after Bachmann gets done with him. He needs feel so bad that he goes into hiding after the debate.

          Anything less and Bachmann loses.

Because if she can’t or won’t totally destroy a lightweight like Romney how will she even survive one round in the ring with Drago (my new name for Obama).

  • Kirk

If we are going to win the general the below video is what the general is going to be like. So she must prove that she can stay in the ring with Obama by first Killing Romney in the Ring (metaphorically of course).

(This time Drago is Obama and the Republican would in this analogy be Rocky).

      Hey Michelle,

See too many Romneys out there? (because he stands on both sides on every issue)

HIT THE ONE IN THE MIDDLE!

You aren’t going to win this one on points.  If you can’t totally destroy a lightweight like Romney why do we think you can go the distance with Obama.
